Well folks, I have arrived...back in Atlanta at least. It's been a rough couple of days, but ya boy has come through it unphased and tainted in joy!! Here's the breakdown....I had to get to Omaha last summer ('05) because of my father's battle with cancer. He was a man who stood with his family his whole life, so it only made sense for me to go home and be with him. Unfortunately he passed 10/07/05 so be on the lookout for a blog dedicated strictly to him.
However, as I was in Omaha, and being the poet that I am, I did the poetry thing. So if you haven't checked out my site www.nabraskapoet.com and checked out my links page http://www.nabraskapoet.com/links.htm then I implore you to do that because there are poets in Omaha doing the damn thang.
Therefore, in honor of them allow me to shout out a few folks.
First and foremost let me thank Liza (of the Club Seville show) for all the support she has shown me. Much respect for allowing me to co-host with me, doing the duet with me, and being a GREAT friend to me while I was there.
Let me thank Melissa (poet/web-designer/camera-lady) for all her support in making the promo DVD, allowing me to come to the writing groups, and just the general support.
My dude Nat www.natderickson.com !! He is an awesome poet and ex-host of one of the greatest open mics that I've ever attended; the now defunct Crosswords at Micks. You my man are the definition of support. And on the tail end of that let me thank Michael the owner of Micks www.micksomaha.com for all his support of indie artist world wide. And on the tail end of that let me thank all the "junkies" who came through ever week...there are too many poets to name, but I am sure that your name will come up, but a special thanks goes out to the biggest and baddest poet in Omaha Jack Hubbell.
To my folks of Versatile http://www.4versatilemusic.com/ they did a lot for me when I was there, and I am sure that we will be doing a lot in the future. The brothers from The Last Few, Wade and J, I can't thank you enough for the music and the opportunity to host on Wednesday at the 1507. And speaking of my folks who support Soul Flow at the 1507, keep it goin'...keep comin' out, and keep ya soul flowin'....ya'll got souls wit skillz. Slim, you are a creative spirit, with a great business mind so keep doin' what u do!!
What!?...did u think that I could forget about the Healing Arts Center, home of the Omaha Slam Team!! Matt Mason, you are poetry in Omaha! And everyone needs to know about www.poetrymenu.com poetrymenu.com poetrymenu.com (inside joke) But on the real, keep spoken word alive in the city, and thank you for all your help.
Jennifer Behm, now I know that's your maiden name and you've gotten married and all that, but I have to thank you for bringing me out to Lincoln and featuring me at your spot Meadowlark Coffee and Expresso. Sorry I can't remember your husbands name, but I have to shout that man out to because he is a big poetry supporter and excellent musician as well.
And please let me not forget Bad Andy, and the show he does at Shea Riley's. Bad Andy, you are my dude!!! This man has assisted me in features all over Omaha with that big bad ass upright...man I don't know what I would do without you. And to all the poets and crowd at Shea Riley's....THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR ALL THE LUV!!! I have never done a feature and had a crowd scream and holler so much to show that they luv what I bring to their stage. So to Bad Andy, Jim Morrison, and the whole Shoot Your Mouth Off II crew....ONE LUV BABY, One Luv
Don't let me forget about Ms. Tamechia, Empowerment Services for Youth, and all the work we did down at Owens Educational Services. This is the lady who allowed me to put my two passions of educating the youth, and poetry together. Tamechia, you are a God-send, and I thank the Most High for sending you my way, you are a blessing.
But that's the update people, I'm back in the A.T.L, and just got back from Vegas...and the show was LIVE LIVE LIVE...the husbandman and the Untamed Tongues family held me down on my first trip to the west coast. So I got plenty of luv for my west coast homies...and be on the lookout for more of ya boy, because I love the West!! So people thank you for everything, and keep doin' what u do, because I ain't stoppin'. So keep ya eyes and ears peeled, and I'll do the same...until later
